Day 1 of My 21 Day Reset
Got off to a very good start on my first day. Over the weekend, I saught council from my trusted wellness team to come up with a nutrition and exercise strategy for the next three weeks.
Our established goals are to reduce the visceral fat in my lower abdomen without losing any muscle. We are not focused on a weight goal, but we do expect to drop down under 200 pounds. the theme of our plan is consistency rather than too much subtraction or addition. Here is my Day 1 in detail.
Woke up to my alarm at 6:30 am. Started my day off by weighing in. Weight was 208.8 lbs. My fighting weight the last six months has been between 200 to 205 so just a little outside my sweet spot, but a strong indicator its is a good time for me to refocus.
The first thing I put in my body was a cup of warm water with Himalayan sea salt and a fresh squeezed organic lemon along with a scoop of creatine. I take two peptides including NAC+ and BCP157 w/Wolverine.
After that, I washed down my supplement stack and was off to the spa in my building.
There I cold plunged for 15 minutes at 46 degrees. As the spa is a mere 100 feet from my apartment, I went back to shower, slam an espresso and get my gym clothes on.
My gym crew meets at 7:30 am five days a week Monday through Friday. I typically show up 15 minutes early to get in a good seven minute stretch followed by eight minutes of an abs before anyone else arrives. Yesterday was no different.
After our work outs, we typically walk to a local coffee house to enjoy each other’s company. This month I decide to cut down the size of my usual large Caffe Latte with Oat Milk to a Cortado, which is about half the size. A small sacrifice, but considering I was having two of those a day and now I’m just gonna have one, that’s pretty significant reduction in calories. I don’t actually recommend oatmilk. It’s been the one indulgence that I allow myself on a daily basis.
Its best practice to drink your coffee black but even better to drin tea instead. I can’t stand tea (dirty water), so that’s not an option I’m down for.
After all the above, I make it back to my apartment around 10:30 am, so that’s four quality hours dedicated to my physical and mental wellness. At this time, I prep what’s going to be my one meal a day for the next 21 days. Yes, you read that right. I am dropping down from 2.5 meals a day as an intermittent faster. That will be the main science experiment this time. Each meal will be had at 11 AM. We shall see how my body responds.
My one meal will be the same every day: 12 ounces of lean grassfed sirloin steak from Butcher Box, half an avocado, sautéed onions, and a bowl of blueberries. I cook the steak in Ivy’s Salted Butter and sprinkle a small amount of Extra Virgin Olive Oil that I brought home from Italy.
I boiled some eggs to have as a snack for later in the day if I experienced hunger pains on day one. I will probably keep this up the first couple of days so my body can transition calmly into this fasting cycle.
From 11 am till 6 pm, I focused on my businesses, putting in a good days work. I did not experience any hunger, pains or lack of energy. I do have to get better at giving myself breaks, as I pretty much worked straight through and ended the workday in an exhausted state.
At 6 pm, I took a good solid one hour nap, which is unusual for me. Waking up at 7 pm, I took an hour long call with the developer and land use attorney that I’m working with in Hawaii to expand our hotel. It’s going to be a huge project that’s gonna take up a big portion of my work life. Super exciting - even after a long nap!
Once that call was done, I was done. I watched one of my favorite shows “Lioness” and after that, I was ready for bed. I typically have two melatonin Gummies and read for a half hour before I fall asleep. Last night was no different. I was asleep by 9:30 pm.
Day 1 Results - weighed in this morning a full 2 lbs lighter at 206.8 lbs & got up at 5:30 am after 8 great hours of sleep to begin Day 2. Had to down a couple of those hard-boiled eggs to battle off hunger pains in the early evening. I consider it all a win.
This photo was taken by my training partner, friend and wellness guide Titus Jean over the weekend discussing strategy for the month ahead. I’m very grateful for his sage advice.
