Day 20 of My 60 Day Sugar Only Fast
Is discipline a problem for you? A year ago I stumbled into the self awarenenes that despite being highly disciplined in other areas of my life, when it came to my health, I had zero!
I even found myself quoting a famous personal development guru’s proclamation that “willpower doesn’t work”!
What a bunch of hogwash!
A year later, I realize how silly that mindset was and how huge of a roll it was playing in holding me back from getting healthy. I came to realize that I lacked discipline, and that was the battle I needed to wage if I was ever gonna become healthy again. That was Job #1!
How did I achieve it? A pretty unexpected way actually. I got in a cold plunge and hated it! But then, something happened inside me.
I felt challenged. I hated being fat and unhealthy too! I finally said enough is enough and figured I had to choose something I didn’t like if I wanted to change. So, I chose getting in cood water every morning.
I didn’t like it. I hated being cold. Heck, as evidence, look no further than the fact that I live in Hawaii & Miami year-round!
But, one day led to another, followed by another and another. After a couple of weeks, it became my morning ritual. I even began challenging myself to stay in the cold plunge for obscenely long periods of time, which definitely turned heads!
Doing the thing I hated first thing in the morning led to morning walks in the sunshine afterward to thaw out. I found that I really enjoyed them!
After a couple months of this, I couldn’t recognize my own legs anymore. From all the walking and the inflammation reduction due to my daily cold plunge routine, my legs looked and felt 15 years younger. This turned into my first big win in my health journey. I thought, if only I could get the upper half of my body to look and perform like the lower half of my body!
This newfound discipline was what resulted in my confidence to undertake my 40 day water only fast a few months later to tackle my belly fat once and for all. That decision resulted in a 65 pound weight loss as well as the elimination of a multitude of ailments.
While fasting, I began researching food. I began to look at it as medicine for when I came off the fast. I became fascinated with discovering the healthiest options for my new body.
This in turn led to hiring a strength trainer, so I could convert my hanging skin from the fast into lean muscle mass.
This decision then led to my current experiment with sugar in the form of organic fruits and their true impacts on my blood sugar levels.
And just like that, after only a year, health became my number one interest and pursuit. All because I tackled the real problem holding me back - a lack of discipline.
You wanna really get a chuckle out of this story? There’s a bit of a cold plunge community in my building. Honestly, the most fit people I have come across in Miami. Nothing but six packs! Many have become friends. They now introduce me to newbies as “The Cold Plunge Legend”.
Life is a trip!
I hope this story inspires you to tackle the real reason you are stuck, whatever it may be!
