Day 2 of My 60 Day Sugar Only Fast
I use to be annoyed by food prep. I convinced myself that I did not have time for it. Not anymore. I see food as medicine now, so I enjoy learning how to make it as healthy as possible before putting it in my body. My emails and social media can wait. They just aren’t as important as my health.
I know you guys appreciate the hacks, so today I will start you off with a few that I deployed yesterday. Nothing earth shattering, but perhaps due to some of you.
In addition to taking 600 mg of a berberine supplement twice a day before meals to help regulate my blood sugar, I also drink a 12 ounce glass of filtered water with a pinch of cinnamon and a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar before bed. I am also taking 500 mg of magnesium daily.
Even though I only buy fruit that is organic, I make sure to wash it thoroughly before consumption.
For instance, I have a simple process for cleaning all of my berries. I start by removing the berries from the harmful plastic container they come in. I then place them in a large glass bowl and soak them in filtered water with a teaspoon of baking soda for ten minutes. A lot of people use vinegar, but I have learned that this offsets the more important benefits of the baking soda.

After soaking, I place them in a stainless steel strainer and pour more filtered water over them for a final cleanse. Clearly I don’t trust municipal water and all the contamination that resides within.
Once clean, I place them on a clean dry cloth for about twenty minutes till dry. I then put them in their new home, some glass Tupperware.
Walla - fresh berries, ready for consumption without harmful pesticides, chemicals in the plastics, dirt and other harmful gunk! Seems worth thirty minutes of my time!
I will continue to share my hacks along the way!
So how did my first day go? Well, my first significant discovery was that I had an incredible amount of energy last night. This is not normal for me. Typically I start to wind down after 7 PM and I either start to read or look for a good show to stream. But not last night! I was 21 years old all over again!
At 8 pm my brain said GO!!! Despite my muscles being incredibly sore from a very hard strength training session in the morning with The Beast (the nickname my brain has given my trainer), I put my workout gear back on, and went outside for a walk.
Before I left, I took my blood sugar out of curiosity. I don’t normally take it after eating or in the evenings. Chris at four warned me that my scores would be quite high the first week, so I was pleasantly surprised when I registered a 139 after eating fruit all!
According to diabetic charts, any score below 140 two hours after eating is considered healthy. Again, always just on the cusp. My main purpose for doing this is that I don’t wanna be on the cusp of healthy. My goal is to say goodbye to diabetes forever!
In the elevator, I told myself I would just walk around my building’s complex for a few minutes, but before I knew it, I was exploring all of Brickell.
Given that it was a Saturday night, there was plenty to take in. People were dressed to the nines and ready to part-ie! It was 80 degrees - a perfect night in Miami!
I walked for about an hour taking it all in. What I noticed was different about though was my pace. I was hauling ass. I was walking WAY faster than I normally do.
By the time I returned home, I had worked up a really good sweat, but my energy level was still really high. This suprised me a tad.
So, I decided to hit the spa where I did my second cold plunge of the day. My plan was to just jump in for a few minutes, but I ended up meeting a nice guy visiting from New York. He was asking me questions about the food scene & nightlife in Brickell. Twenty minutes later I realized we were still at it! My energy level was off the charts!
Apparently, Lori was working out in the gym above the spa and asked me who my new friend was. She said she saw me whip out my iPad. I laughed because at some point I was so engaged and making sure my new friend had the night of his life that I did pull out my iPad, which I brought with me because my walk was so long that my battery died on my phone.
My plan was to read from the novel I’ve been devouring while cold plunging. Instead, I used it to bust out a map of all the best restaurants and night spots. LOL! That guy probably had the best night of his life!
Why am I sharing this level of detail? Cause they are benefits from trying something new. Everything I experienced last night was a reward for changed behavior. Cause and effect. I actually had a great Saturday night without digging into my stock, pile of high-end tequila! 🤣
As I was waking up this morning, I received a phone call from my health advisor Christopher Kidawski. He called to encourage me not to worry about my blood sugar score in the morning. I shared with him my experience the night before and I asked him to teach me why my energy level was so high.
He said the following:

“One of the reasons children are so reactionary to sugar with high energy bursts, is that there bodies are capable of processing it. They are not diseased yet.”
He went on to say:
“When you feed the body a complex situation to deal by mixing protein, starches, fibers, sugars etc., it really has to work to process and use or store it all.
But, when you only eat sugar, it is a very clean burning calorie that our bodies can digest more quickly then say a steak, which takes hours. The brain then sends signals to the body to move. Unfortunately, parents misread this energy burst in their kids as a problem when in actuality it just means they’re healthy!
As adults, our energy systems are so corrupted that our sources of food that are supposed to convert to energy, instead put us to sleep. We get lethargic. So, its an excellent sign that you had a high level of energy the first night on your sugar diet. If not, we would have known I had a problem.”
Cool stuff. After finishing our conversation, I went into the bathroom to take my morning blood sugar test. Heating Chris warnings I expected a high score in the 120+ range. instead….I registered an 89, which is 10 points better than my daily average the last three months.
Unexpected this early in the process, but I’ll take it as a win,…..just like all of last night! 😜
