A little over eight years ago, my Dad checked himself into the hospital to undergo what his doctor told him was a minor heart procedure. It was a Friday cause he didn’t want to miss any work.
On Monday, he drove himself an hour to work. He was the Chairman of Cahill Contractors in San Francisco. Three days later while walking to his office, his heart stopped. He fell without being able to break his fall. His head bounced off the concrete. Luckily, his heart restarted, but the injury to his head presented a new problem.
By the of end the week, the same doctor took his drivers license away and by the following week his illustrious career was over.
That was a very difficult time for my Dad, and for our entire family. Seeing our hero in such rough shape was gut wrenching. Recovery was slow. His good days seemed numbered.
But…..we were all wrong. My Dad was not done living, just done working. Not done living by a long shot! Every one of these pictures was taken since that difficult time 8+ years ago.
Thank you God for giving my dad these quality years of overtime and to my dad for having the will to live them to their fullest. And thank you to my Mom for being there for him every step of the way, as well as all of my siblings & spouses (including my own) who have stepped up in one way or another. I will always cherish these years.
My pops is doing great. This isn’t foreshadowing in any way shape or form. But truth be told, we never know how long we have left with our loved ones, so it was just in my heart tonight to share how grateful I am for these past 8+ years
