I feel a real sense of unease when I catch myself aiming for really good instead of great.
Now, I’m not knocking “really good.” There’s a lot of value in it. I’ve achieved it many times, and I respect anyone who does. But for me, especially at the beginning of a new journey, settling there feels off.
It runs counter to The Inspired Way. Because inspiration is my fuel. And “really good” doesn’t fuel me… it drains me.
So how do I know when I’ve slipped into that territory?
I look in the mirror.
And if the word staring back at me is “good,” I know something is missing. That’s my signal to go back to the drawing board and figure out which ingredient didn’t make it into the cocktail.
I’ve been sitting in that tension for the past month.
On paper, everything looks right. I’ve built something new that’s full of opportunity. I’m confident it will succeed and I am the right person to lead it. It has almost every ingredient I could want…
But not all of them.
And that’s how I know, it’s really good. Not great.
This weekend while vacationing in Del Mar, CA, I finally realized the missing ingredient and the ideas began to flow like a robust waterfall.
The Universe has a way of doing that when you’re willing to listen, especially in beautiful places.
I am not quite ready to share it, but I do know the most important thing - I have clarity on which ingredient needs to be added and why. The how will be the far easier part to figure out.
What ingredient is missing from your life right now?
