Timeless
From D1 Dreams to 300+ lbs.

From D1 Dreams to 300+ lbs. and Back Again!

In 1989, I lived out a childhood dream. I led my high school team to a championship and made the University of San Diego’s Division I Men’s Basketball team as a walk-on. Since the age of four, I had one mission: be a Baller. ✅

But life, as it does, had other plans. And so did the campus cafeteria. 🤣

My freshman year, I went from a lean, mean 185 lbs to a cozy 200, thanks to generous portions at the buffet (and maybe a few too many “hydration” nights 🍻). I also blew my knee out, ending my career as a basketball player. By the time I crossed the graduation stage, I clocked in at 222 lbs.

Yup, entered college as a D1 athlete, left looking like the stunt double for the Pillsbury Doughboy. 😂

But life’s funny like that. Sometimes, it hands you a second shot… if you’re willing to do the work.

Last October 23rd on my birthday, I decided to rewrite the script.

This morning, I stepped on the scale at 199.6 lbs as a 54-year old, just under the weight I finished my freshman year at age 19. This means that I have lost 78 pounds since my birthday 11 months ago, and remember, I once tipped the scales at 310!

The twist? I’m doing things now I couldn’t do back then. After my daily 20-minute cold plunge and a one-hour walk, I hit a new personal best: walked a full minute with two 80-pound dumbbells in a Farmer’s Carry. My gym doesn’t make them heavier. I started out at 35-pounds. Over time, and lots of practice, I proceeded to clear the rack!

37 years later…I might just be in the best shape of my life.

Could it be? Am I an athlete again? 😎

Here’s what I’ve learned:

You’re never too far gone for a comeback.

You’re never too old to change the story.

And you’re always just one decision away from changing your life.

Let’s go. 👊
