I’ve been rich and I’ve been poor. I’ve cashed a ten million dollar check and I’ve been ten million in debt. I’ve lived in mansions and I’ve lived in a dusty old warehouse. I’ve successfully sold seven businesses and I’ve shut down another seven that no longer served me. The duality of taking risks is that there are at least two possible results with every journey.
All of the above statements are true and have interesting stories behind them, but, the two things that all of these life experiences had in common is that I had a purpose and a willingness to take huge risks.
I have met a fair amount of wealthy people who no longer live with purpose, and I can emphatically say that I would rather be poor with great purpose than in their shoes. Risk is my friend, not my enemy. Comfort is the true enemy of growth.
As my buddy Garrett B. Gunderson says, “Money without purpose may be worse than poverty. I've seen people that are poor and happy. I've yet to see someone with money and devoid of purpose feel the same.”
