Selfish vs. Self-Love
Is this a thing? It is for me. I recognize the considerable difference in how these two words are thought of by most people. One is considered bad, ugly even, while the other is considered good in nearly every circumstance. But is this true?
When it comes to dreams, I’ve never met a bonfide Dreamer who wasn’t selfish. In fact, I propose that it may be a requirement. I believe that a Dreamer sees no difference in these two words. They sub-consciously translate the word selfish into self-love.
Do you think Michael Jordan could have become Michael Jordan without a healthy dose of selfishness? I could give you many more examples but it would just bias the point of this post. If you appreciate the person I mention, maybe we agree. If you dislike the person, my entire point gets lost.
I’ve witnessed many words get turned into something bad. I hope this never happens to the word inspire cause we need more people inspired enough to selfishly go for their dreams as their ultimate act of self-love.
The thing about Dreamers is this. While their dream may have begun from a selfish desire, an accomplished Dreamer typically gets the rarest of opportunities - to inspire others to think about their own dreams. This becomes their greatest unselfish gift to humanity and their legacy.
Let’s hope The Inspired sprinkle a little selfishness on top of your desires. Otherwise, maybe your dream is like a cupcake without sprinkles, also known of as just a muffin. 😎
