Miami has me inspired. This puts me in a writing mood. Two more days till I drive back to Destin to begin the process of packing up to actually move here. Lori and I accomplished our goal of identifying and securing a place to live for the next year.
The biggest thing I observe every day in Miami (besides terrible driving 🙈) is the tremendous work ethic of its residents. People are busting their asses every day to make a living here. Employees, managers, owners, doesn’t matter which one. It’s a hard working environment across the board. It’s impressive to see.
In Hawaii, there are plenty of examples of fantastic work ethic too. For example, my friend Chris Carroll busts his ass every day to grow his excavation company. And, nobody I know works harder, or cares more about doing quality work, than my employee of three years Valerie Mendoza. So much so, she’s a partner now and no longer an employee at all!
Chris & Valerie are diamonds in the rough though in Hawaii. They are exceptional and not the norm. I am so grateful for these two and the rest of our team.
The work force in Hawaii can be very transient. Getting people to show up is more than half the battle. When you live in a place as beautiful as Hawaii, it’s understandable why some prefer to take a day off, rather than work. 🌈😎
The big difference in Miami is that the labor pool is massive and there are a lot of jobs to go around as the economy is booming! There seems to be a willingness to work, and work very hard. This is the norm, not the exception. And from what I’ve personally experienced, the cities I’ve lived in thus far in Florida the last two years are super clean and seem well run. That’s not to say there aren’t problems here too. I’m just saying that this is a good formula for growth.
As an entrepreneur, this is inspiring and an attractive place to do business. And you all know how I like me some inspiration! 😎
