Last night I witnessed the most inspirational five minutes of my life.
Goosebumps on my soul with tears running down both cheeks, my heart filled with hope for not only my most desired unrealized dream, but everyone else’s too.
It occurred within the confines of a brilliant 90-minute one person show on a stage in San Diego. The performer of the monologue was Patrick Combs. The show was called “Trying To Break A Leg”.
Patrick just so happens to be my best friend. I would gladly get on a plane to see him entertain an audience anywhere in the world, which I did, all the way from Hawaii. But, that’s not what happened last night.
Sure, the sold-out audience was entertained, but that’s not what really happened last night. Nor is it what anyone will remember.
What did happen?
The audience and I saw the result of what can happen when a person pushes himself to his absolute limits as an artist, no, as a human being, to never give up on their most desired dream to follow their bliss.
After a lifetime of great performances on stages all across the world (many of which I’ve seen), I bore witness to THE performance that earns his life a standing ovation.
Game, set, match - your life’s work is complete brother. You did the job!
And to you Patrick’s Ego, you bullied my friend for decades and doubled down these last few months. You tried to break my friend. You tried to prevent THIS moment.
After hogging the stage most of the night trying to be THE star of the show about my best friends inspirationally epic life, you were not even invited to these five minutes. You were nowhere to be found, you third rate talentless court jester.
How you like them apples?
