Inspired Goal Setting
We have two types of goals: Intrinsic and Extrinsic goals
Extrinsic are focused on something external to you like praise, rewards, and getting stuff. The three main examples are money, image and status or popularity.
Intrinsic goals are inherently satisfying all by themselves because they have to do with intrinsic psychological needs that all people have like personal growth (trying to be who you really are), close connected relationships, and community feeling or our desire to help the world be a better place.
These goals are in opposition to each other.
People that are more oriented to extrinsic goals are far less satisfied, more depressed, more anxious, less energized, than those focused on intrinsic, who are more happy, have more vitality, and less anxiety.
50% of our happiness levels come from our genes, only 10% our Circumstances (Income, Social Status, Where You Live), and 40% Intentional Activity (actions you choose to do).
Since you can’t control your genes, it makes sense to focus on the next biggest area of impact - your intentional activities. Some keys to intentional behavior are variety, which helps switch things up, nature, playing a sport, and hobbies the you can really improve at, like playing an instrument
Happy people are shown to have close and supportive family and friends and a tribe. This last one is the reason I have asked you to join this group. We are The Inspired. I have only one goal here, and that is to inspire you to live your best life.
I hope that you have found this reminder helpful. If you set New Year’s resolutions that have already lost their impact, perhaps you can use this information to set new goals. There’s 11 months still to go in this year. The sky is the limit!!!!!
