Day 12 of 60 | Part 1 | Bonjour, Paris! 🇫🇷✨
Our third full day at École Ducasse was, without a doubt, my favorite so far. Why? Because there was no intimidating, centuries-old sauce to master, the kind of velvety concoction that requires a PhD in patience and possibly a second lifetime to perfect. 🤣
Instead, today’s lesson was pure French simplicity: scrambled eggs and toast. Sounds easy, right? Oh, mon ami, not so fast. This wasn’t your average “toss them in the pan while half-asleep” kind of breakfast. This was haute cuisine eggs featuring a dozen ingredients arranged with the precision of a symphony, cooked low and slow until they reached a texture that can only be described as “luxuriously cloud-like.” The French truly have a way of transforming even the simplest dish into art.
One of my classmates suggested I commemorate my first completed French dish, so naturally, I struck a pose for the camera like I’d just won Top Chef: Beginner’s Luck Edition. 🧑🍳📸
Then came the risotto, a creamy, dreamy, and slightly laborious, but oh-so-worth-it. I expected my first spoonful to taste like “well… effort,” but to my delight, it was magnifique! So delicious, in fact, that despite already being full from eating my first breakfast at 6 a.m. (rookie mistake — who knew we’d be cooking another one at 9?!), I devoured the entire dish before suddenly remembering… I have dinner reservations at a two-star Michelin restaurant tonight. On the Eiffel Tower no less. In just a few hours. Oh snap! 😳
To balance out today’s glorious indulgence, Lori and I have heroically decided to forgo the private elevator and instead take the stairs up the Eiffel Tower to dinner — because clearly, we’re training for the Tour de Gluttony. Très sportif, non? We’ll see if we’re still feeling that same joie de vivre around step 600… or if the elevator starts looking like the smarter option after all. 😂
