Some Thoughts on Getting Unstuck Part 1
For years, I believed that if I could just look deep enough into someone’s soul, if I could speak the right words, at the right moment, I could ignite their fire. That I could be the reason they finally began the journey toward their dreams.
I’ve since realized how foolish that belief was. Not because the desire to help was wrong, but because growth doesn’t work like that. Change doesn’t bend to even the most sincere inspiration. People move when they’re ready, not when we’re ready for them to.
Now, I understand something deeper: I might never be the flame. I might not even be the match. At best, I’m a small but fruitful part of the mysterious cocktail that eventually gets someone unstuck. And truthfully… I’m proud of that.
It’s liberating to know I don’t have to be everything in someone’s transformation story. I’m not responsible for the outcomes. I no longer carry the guilt for the mentees who never gave their dreams the effort they deserved. That burden has lifted.
I’ve come to see my role differently: I’m like the ice in the cocktail. Maybe not the loudest ingredient, but I shape the experience. I cool the burn. I give the drink structure. I matter…..but so does everything else.
In the end, it doesn’t matter if I’m 2% or 70% of the reason someone finally goes after what they want. All that matters is that they do. And if I had any part in that, no matter how small, then I’ve done something real.
