In my hometown of Menlo Park to meet with my EO Group today and to see my buddy Akshay Nanavati present at our Silicon Valley Chapter event tonight. EO stands for Entrepreneur Organization. I have been a member of Silicon Valley EO for about six years now.
While there are over 12,000 members worldwide, my Forum has just eight members. They are my brothers & sisters. Our Forum meets once a month to discuss 5% of the best and worst things happening in our lives. We share such things to gain perspective and clarity, so we can grow as business owners, men & woman, siblings, parents and as spouses. It is a unique support group built on vulnerability and trust.
We have developed a special bond to each other that is not quite the same as family, or even close friendships. I never served in the military, but I imagine it is closer to how veterans view their buddies that they served with in the military.
I flew in tonight cause my buddy Akshay, a former U.S. Marine who fought in Iraq, is gearing up to accomplish something no human has this November. He is going to attempt to walk across Antartica unassisted and alone, pulling a sixty pound sled. He anticiptes it taking 110 days. To say that it will be dangerous is to overstate the obvious.
When a brother decides to do something like this, and its your last chance to see him before he puts his life on the line, you get your ass on a plane no matter where you are or what you are doing doing. You show up!
I never served in the military, but my EO Group is about brotherhood, and Akshay is my brother. Wouldn’t miss it for the world. Seeing Akshay’s new bride Melissa Nanavati in person is a big bonus too. I can’t wait for my EO crew to be inspired by Akshay. Who knows what it might inspire us to do or become!
