Cold Plunge Story Part 2 of 2
Excuse me! I said rather loudly so the desk attendant upstairs could hear me and come down.
“Yes sir.” she ran down the stairs and approached me in the cold plunge with concern. “Are you ok?”
Well, I replied, that’s subjective!
As symptoms of hypothermia had set in about fifteen minutes before, I figured this was an appropriate response, but I noticed how nervous it made her.
I smiled and said, “Do you mind taking a picture of me?”
Given it was 9:45 pm, fifteen minutes till closing, and we were the only two people left in the facility, her eyes went wide. But, I was ready for such a response. I had thought this through……in the first twenty minutes before my thoughts started getting jumbled from the extreme cold.
I humbly said, I’ve been working towards a particular goal and I’m about to accomplish it. Been at it a few months now. I would like to memorialize it.
“Oh sure, that makes sense” she replied. I could tell her comfort level went from a negative ten to about an eight.
“What goal are you accomplishing?” she curiously inquired.
Fifty minutes in a cold plunge! I declared, holding up my phone as its timer passed forty-nine minutes!
“Holy shit! That’s really impressive!” she enthusiastically proclaimed.
Why thank you, I said. Her acknowledgement initiated a quick reflection of the 55 days of cold plunging that it took for me to arrive at my goal. Since I returned to Miami, I started over at ten minutes on day one, and added two to three minutes each day till I hit fifty.
I said, you are my only witness, but if you could take a photo of me right when my timer hits 50:00 I will be able to invite a few of my Inspired friends to the party. Do you mind?
“I would be honored!” she proudly answered.

In all honesty, this is the first physical goal that I have accomplished since my sports playing days in college that I am deeply proud to have achieved. It leaves me craving more.
