I gave myself a beautiful gift yesterday. I used the entire day as an awakened doing creative session for the year ahead.
First, I positioned myself in nature. Below is a photo of my chosen office for the day.
Second, I dropped into the present moment and allowed inspiration to come from my soul rather than my noisy Ego.
Third, I took a blank piece of paper, and in no particular order, wrote down things that arose from my soul that I would very much enjoy doing in 2023. I did not put a second of thought into how I would accomplish any of them. I just wrote them down as they arose. Also, I did not write them down in any kind of linear fashion. I made a bit of art project out of it!
Once I felt like I made all the choices that mattered most to my inner-being without any external-world influence, I then drew lines to choices that potentially went together. I didn’t bother with arrows at the end of my lines, as that would mean that one had to come before another. I wasn’t seeking any order, just connections.
I then drew a garbage bin in the bottom right corner. In it, I placed things in my life to be discarded that no longer bring me joy, peace or self-love. It is worthy of note that none of my newly created desires got put in the trash bin.
I must admit, it felt really good to place items in the garbage. They came to me quickly and without hesitation. Apparently, my soul knows what’s best for me.
Not surprisingly, as soon I would place an item in the garbage to be thrown out of my life, my Ego would try it’s best to convince me to remove it from the trash. I resisted this resistance. 😎
I then listed a few companies that I own at the bottom center of my page. I decided that two of them needed name changes. The new names came easily to me. I resisted my Ego’s never ending desire to be right. It wanted me to drop what I was doing (aka-leave the present moment) to conduct a name search in multiple places to confirm that these new names are legally available or could be purchased.
I then gave each of my ideas a home by selecting which company would be awarded the opportunity to bring them to life.
Once completed, I created a second page and repeated the process for my personal life.
I giggle at this concept cause the construct that we actually have a ‘work life’ and a ‘personal life’, and that they are indeed separate, is a bit of a made up concept. Another post topic for another day.
I did not learn the above process in business school or from a personal development book or podcast. I didn’t even learn it from the Eckhart Tolle retreat I am currently attending in Maui.
I did however, discover it by choosing to be present so a nod of gratitude to my presence teachers. This allowed me to quiet my ego so my soul could be heard. From there, it all flowed rather easily.
Afterwards, I reached out to a couple of friends by phone. As if by miracle, each of my chosen individuals actually answered their phone. I didn’t have to go to anyone’s Calendly link to schedule a 15-minute call a month from now. 😎
I revealed that I was doing a bit of 2023 planning and that they specifically came up in my thoughts in terms of collaboration or enhanced friendship. They revealed that they were doing the same, and had thought of me too. Fruitful conversations were had.
The Universe is magical if you can become present and awaken to its vast miracles. I look forward to the year ahead but I am most grateful for this moment. I really enjoyed writing this. I hope you enjoyed reading it.
