Timeless
I have a decades long pattern of always turning to my strength of 'doingness'.

Beingness vs. Doingness

I’m feeling restless of late. This is a good thing. It means that I am being tested, and therefor, have an opportunity to grow. This is not a call for help. It’s an authentic share. A look at my self-awareness, how I think, how I process opportunities. Perhaps it will inspire you to do the same.

I have a decades long pattern of always turning to my strength of ‘doingness’. And this strength is calling me to action........loudly. However, I know that I’m an exceptional doer, and that this may not be the muscle for me to flex right now.

My intention this year is to focus on ‘beingness’. I placed it as my number one priority. While this sounds simple (hey dumbass - just do nothing and learn how to be joyful doing nothing), it is not. The gravitational pull is immense and unsettling.

To better understand my quandary, take inventory of the habits and patterns that are most prevalent in your life. Whether they deliver positive or negative results, imagine the challenge of completely reversing them even when they serve you in a profound way, good or bad. It is not an easy path to take.

I have massive opportunities swirling around me, calling me out by name. Inviting me to joyfully play. I’m perfect for them and they want me just as bad. The kind of once-in-a-lifetime deals that will again, light my life on fire, and bring me great rewards. And when I say rewards, I’m not talking just financial. I elevated from that driver many years ago. I’m talking rewards that deliver an abundance of joyful moments. The kind you are use to reading and seeing in my posts - those kind!

But, are they what I need most? Do I need more moments from doing? Even if they bring more joy? Has pursuing my dreams become too strong of a muscle? Is it now my default mode? The only way I truly know how to grow? Have I become one-dimensional?

If you are thinking - this is the most first world problem anyone has ever posted on Facebook, well, judge away. That’s fair. I deserve it if that is what you are thinking. Or, maybe you can relate. You get to read this share either way. I’m not hiding from who I have become or how I attempt to grow.

What happens when you have two competing priorities? When both provide great potential outcomes? Which do you choose? Beingness, the lessor known path available to me with expert guidance, or ‘doingness’, the known path (and my expertise) to great moments and an abundance of joy? And why do I keep thinking of that scene in Star Wars where Yoda tells a young Luke Skywalker he is making a mistake leaving his training to go fight another battle? LOL

Time will tell. The gravitational pull within me to ‘doingness’ is very strong. Likely because it has treated me so well in the past. Learning to follow my bliss has been my greatest journey to date. I have evidence that it treats me kindly and rewards me handsomely. It has most definitely become a habit, a pattern, my default mode. Should I interrupt it to learn this other thing? Can I?

Shit, was Yoda right? Did Luke sacrifice the long term for the short term?

Today, I truly don’t know what lies ahead for me , but I have a strong feeling that I will figure this out in 2022. This is why I am restless. I hope I choose the right Magic Doorway for me.

Key lesson: Even a world-class doer must learn that being, not doing, may be the next frontier.

Summary: Authentically shares the tension between his 'doingness' strength and 'beingness' goal.
