Timeless
A choice without a commitment is just your brain getting through the freaking day.

This beautiful quote/image floated into my orbit this morning and inspired me to write this post.

At my Bliss Retreats, I give a keynote speech at the beginning of every retreat to set the intention for the transformation work that each participant will undertake.

My speech focuses on two key topics - commitment and fear. I feel inspired to share the commitment portion with you today. Here it is. I hope it inspires you to action in an area you feel stuck.

---------------------------------------------------

If changing your patterns allows change to occur, what must happen?

You must make a CHOICE!

And what is a CHOICE?

By Definition, Webster’s says that a CHOICE is an act of selecting or making a DECISION when faced with two or more possibilities.

Did you know that the average amount of remotely conscious decisions an adult makes each day equals about 35,000?

In contrast, young children only make about 3,000 decisions each day.

SO, if simply choosing is NOT the answer to CHANGE

THEN WHAT IS????????

To answer that we first must understand what makes a choice STAND OUT ………with 35,000 OTHER choices a day to contend with?

Anyone?

What makes a Choice strong is when it gets turned into a…

COMMITMENT

After BLISS, this is literally my favorite word in the English language.

Webster’s CRUSHES This Definition:

It says a COMMITMENT is the STATE of BEING dedicated to a cause or activity.

It is a pledge or an undertaking.

One more time.

It says a COMMITMENT is the STATE of BEING dedicated to a cause or activity.

How cool is that?

Our society is so predicated on SELLING SOLUTIONS that we often skip right over the MOST critical component to change, as if it doesn’t really matter.

Learning how to turn a CHOICE into a COMMITMENT is the WHOLE ballgame!

It determines whether you are ready, OR NOT, to BEGIN ANYTHING.

Moving forward without a commitment is really the equivalent of being pushed into a pool with all your clothes on.

Sure, it’s a lot of fun once you get over the shock of the water, but it wasn’t a choice by you, and it SURE AS HELL wasn’t a commitment!

A choice without a commitment is just your brain getting through the freaking day.

Let me provide some examples that might hit this further home.

Raise your hand if you have ever made these choices without backing it up with actual commitments.

I am going to lose weight?

I am going to get up earlier in the mornings?

I am going to watch less TV?

I am going to eat healthy?

I am going to drink less?

I am going to work out more?

I am going to be romantic more often with my significant other?

I am going to stop using Facebook so much?

Should I keep going?

The great news is that while our brains are certainly capable of putting on a shitshow all day long, they are also VERY capable of making good decisions with actual commitment behind them.

Tomorrow, I will share another section of my speech. It addresses FEAR!

Key lesson: Learning how to turn a choice into a commitment is the whole ballgame.

Summary: Shares part one of his retreat keynote: turning choices into commitments.
