Self-awareness is always the first step to true transformation.

With no big moves, acquisitions or exits on the agenda for 2022, I decided to go with some good old fashioned New Years Resolutions to get myself focused this year.

Otherwise known as annual goals, I want to be very intentional with 2022. After a year of flying by the seat of my pants, executing on multiple dreams, I want this year to be deliberate and measured.

Goal setting is pointless unless you back your goals up with commitment and accountability. Commitment is internal but accountability can be both internal and external. Today I make it external, as I present my accountability check-in.

2022 Goals

1) Establish a reliable Presence Practice for more Joy, Love, Gratitude & Peace

2) Lose 5 pounds per month for better Performance

3) Continue my Bliss Journey of writing my fable at a pace of one chapter per month - completing a rough draft manuscript

4) Host 16 retreats in Hawaii, 4 in Destin

5) Complete custom pool build-out at Bliss Island

#1 Results) - I had two more coaching sessions with my Presence Practice Coach. My most exciting development is that I became self-aware of my default state pertaining to my journey to enlightenment. As a result, I gained a better understanding of what I need to focus on. I learned that the two preferred states are ‘doingness’ and ‘beingness’. I gleaned that the ratio I operate at most often is about 90% doingness and 10% beingness. I’m a doer. I’m either taking action on my dreams constantly or I’m thinking about how to accomplish them. When I chill, it’s usually to take a break from my dreams. Learning to step into a state of beingness more often is my work to do. And since self-awareness is always the first step to true transformation, I’m happy with my progress. A shout out to my excellent coach Patrick Combs.

#2 Results) I didn’t lose five pounds, I lost ten! Woohoo! I’m 268.8 pounds. Feels good to be back in the 60’s again. How did I do it? By changing the story in my head. I was constantly telling myself that I hated working out. In early January I was able to change the story I was telling myself to a belief that I never regret a workout. I also have a knowledgeable virtual trainer holding me accountable each day thanks to my friend John Lewis.

How much was strategy? Very little. First thing in the mornings, I walk the beach for an hour or more, 5x a week. I also ate super clean, which for me, means low sugar and healthy foods for my gut. I also kept my commitments to not have red meat, alcohol or dessert for the entire month. One unexpected benefit of my actions is that my high blood pressure dropped from a dangerous 150 to a healthy 120.

I failed to keep my commitment of no sauces, when I noticed I was using sugar free, fat free salad dressing as a dip one night, to make something taste better. A small infraction but hey, a commitment is a commitment. So I did not keep that one. Overall though, I’m very happy with my results.

As per my plan, tomorrow morning I will create a new set of commitments and strategies to keep my goal to lose five pounds in February.

#3 Results) I did not write one chapter, I wrote five. I’m actually quite pleased with the result but realize that my story line would have been perfect to publish twenty five years ago, but not today. This month I’m gonna focus on modernizing it. Boy, was it fun to write, read, and rewrite.

#4 Results) I built a website (www.BlissRetreats.com) to begin selling my goal of twenty retreats. My friend Brianne Kennemer is helping me with final edits, which I’m gonna knock-out today. In February, I plan to begin marketing in earnest. So far, I have ten retreats that have actual sales, meaning they are gonna happen for sure. A decent start to the year, but I need to really focus on my marketing in February to keep this goal attainable.

#5 Results) Coming into January, I already had one quote to construct our amazing pool, poolhouse and subterranean wine cellar at Bliss Island, but I was hoping to get a second quote his month. Unfortunately it did not happen as the contractor did not follow through. I’ve made the decision to move forward with the Contractor that did. I hope to be in contract with a start date decided by the end of February.

Overall, I’m very happy with the month and I celebrate the wins. But, I still have a long way to go on all five of my goals, so it’s back to work.

Where are you at with your goals? It’s not too late to set new ones or revise the ones you made with new commitments. Let’s gooooo!

Key lesson: Self-awareness is always the first step to true transformation.

Summary: January accountability report on all five 2022 goals, wins and misses.
